Heroic Chivalry: The Green Legend – Chapter Two: Bai Li Jing
As our fine horses galloped, Jingyi and I laughed as we sped toward the distant city. The city ahead was Huayang City, which housed an important branch of Heroic Chivalry Manor. Although we were pressed for time, the complex power dynamics in this city especially with an important Beggar Sect branch present meant Jingyi and I decided to stop here and arrange a meeting with their leader, Hua Tianyu.
When we arrived at the city gates, Jingyi and I dismounted. As always, Jingyi’s dismounting drew the attention of men around us. That brief exposure left them parched and tongue-tied. Even the city guards’ wives were envious, but the guards themselves, recognizing the horses we rode, knew what status we held.
We walked our horses into the city under the guards’ watchful eyes. At this moment, Jingyi showed no wanton behavior her public identity was the Lady of Heroic Chivalry Manor, and such a status didn’t allow her to act out in public, lest it damage the Manor’s reputation. We still couldn’t disregard our reputations.
Strolling the wide streets, Jingyi and I admired the city’s prosperity. In these times, there weren’t many cities where people could live in peace. Huayang City achieved this thanks to the joint efforts of several martial factions, including our own Huayang branch.
"Husband, the branch master here is doing well. You should reward him," Jingyi said with delight as she looked at the bustling city.
"Sure! I’ll just reward him with my wife," I replied with a mischievous grin.
"Annoying!" Jingyi pouted, then added with a sultry smile, "A gentleman’s word is his bond. I guess I’ll have to obey."
"When did I become a gentleman?" I teased.
"You’re my husband, aren’t you?" Jingyi laughed.
