At dusk, two horses led a carriage through the gates of Jinzhou City. The guards at the gate looked at the two horses with contempt, as they were quite shabby. Although the two riders appeared heroic, their poor-quality horses brought them scorn. The two horses pulling the carriage were no better, and aside from the skill of the coachman, there was nothing memorable about them.
This group was us. It wasn’t that we didn’t want better horses, but in a small city like Qiushui, there simply weren’t any good horses to be found. Even if I had wanted to buy one, it was impossible. In the next two towns, it was the same story no good horses. So, we arrived at Jinzhou, a relatively large city, looking rather shabby.
Today was the third day since we left Qiushui City. Once we got better horses, it would only take a little over two days to reach Heroic Chivalry Manor. If I were traveling alone, I could make the journey in half a day, but I had to take care of the others. I was eager to get home. News of my survival hadn’t reached home yet, and Jingyi must be worried sick. I had nothing on me to prove my identity, so I couldn’t use the manor’s network. I had always kept a low profile, and few branch leaders even knew me my wife usually handled those meetings.
We stopped our carriage in front of the Sihai Inn. After dismounting, I went inside while Xuanchong respectfully opened the carriage door. Jiang Feng was the first to get off, dressed simply, which made people look down on him. But when Sister Yuyan stepped down in her elegant dress, everyone nearby was stunned by her beauty. As she stepped down, a bit of her calf was exposed, and the sight of her fair skin made all the men want to see more.
Xuanchong helped her down respectfully, and she immediately let go of his hand and walked over to me. Her face was serious, completely different from the seductive look she had shown at night in recent days.
After we left Qiushui City, Sister Yuyan’s gentle demeanor immediately turned serious again. The night before, I had reminded her not to be so stern. She looked at me for a long time and then asked an awkward question:
