Alex felt a damp cloth touch his forehead, causing his body to twitch at the sensation. His hazel eyes quickly opened, momentarily dazed as he took in his surroundings.
The chamber was beautifully decorated with wedding ornaments, but instead of that, his attention was drawn to Meredith, who sat by his side, attending to him.
"Meredith!" he exclaimed, quickly grabbing her arm that held the wet towel and sitting upright. "Did I blackout just now?" he asked.
Meredith smiled. She remembered how her husband had continued to gush about her beauty and his desire to celebrate their wedding night as they made their way to the bedchamber. He was clearly smitten with her, even in his inebriated state.
"Not for long," she replied. "Thanks to Mr. Amares’s remedies, you woke up much sooner than I expected."
Alex gazed at his wife, taking in her features. Meredith had already changed into her nightgown and wrapped herself in a robe while he was still in his wedding attire. Feeling embarrassed, he apologised.
"I’m so sorry for leaving you. I thought of coming back to you at the grand hall, but I couldn’t leave my comrades. They had been helping me attend to the guests and relatives, so I couldn’t say no to their request to spend time together."
Meredith chuckled. "I understand. Don’t worry about it. I was just worried when I couldn’t find you."
"I promise I won’t do it again!" Alex raised his hand, vowing. "This would be the last time!"
Meredith smiled again. "Again? Why is there ’again’ in your words? Are you planning to get married again with someone else?" she joked.
"Of course not! Why would I?" Alex exclaimed. His innocence made Meredith laugh. "What I mean is, I don’t want to repeat what I did tonight! I know I made a mistake by leaving you alone."
