The Grand Duke's Soulmate

Chapter 338: (Special Release) Establishing A Tactical Plan

"I still can’t discern whether she’s telling the truth," Adam said doubtfully. "She might have picked up the locket from somewhere and woven a tale around it."

The two of them had steered away from Athillia, finding a secluded spot for their discreet discussion.

"No. I believe her," Kyren responded earnestly.

"You do? But her proof is not that concrete! She could be hiding something from us," Adam countered sceptically.

"She didn’t lie. Not one of the stories she mentioned that I knew of was wrong. And when she talked about the Laradie plague, it was all true. The testing done by the mage was actually successful, but she didn’t know," the grand duke explained.

"You’ve lost me here, my lord," Adam admitted, his forehead creased in confusion.

"The Laradie plague did erupt near the Datrey Forest and Mistdale, a village at the southern border of Cassian and Dracor. A group of foragers traversed a cave there and got infected," Kyren revealed.

"What?! How did you come to know about this?" Adam exclaimed, eyes wide-opened.

"It happened when my knights and I were on duty for the campaign during the last slave-auction season. We managed to get it under control. I reported the incident to His Majesty, and we decided to keep the matter discreet to prevent panic and alarm," the grand duke shared.

"But... how did you manage to control it? This disease cannot be simply treated with mere medicines! The only way to overcome it is by using the distributed drugs or the pure serum, and you didn’t have that in possession! It’s impossible since the Bargesians have stolen the formula!" Adam said, genuinely perplexed.

"We have someone who is able to produce the cure. Her blood contains the pure serum, which we used to treat those affected by the plague and also provide temporary immunity to my knights," Kyren replied.
