Chapter 156: You Did Not Refuse!
"What are you wearing?" her eyes twitched and it took all in her to not growl at him. Damon looked ignorantly at his tattered old stable’s boy uniform and then at her with such naivety that she laughed.
"Was it not your idea to wear such clothes for the night market?" as if he had finally noticed that she was exasperated.
"I am a commoner! You are a duke!" she pointed at herself and then looked at him. "If you go to the royal palace dressed like this. They will make fun of you." she glared at him but he just smiled making her fume. Did she look funny? "You can not wear this, Damon."
"And why does it irritate you?" he raised a brow, amused. But his eyes had a look that burnt her cheeks. "You are not a commoner, Olivia. Not that it matters, but you are daughter of a baron and sister of a duchess. Why do you care about me, your enemy?"
"I..." she inhaled a deep breath, "I do not care about you but the Aykroyd family. It is about Abi and Leo’s future." hearing her righteous tone, his eyes narrowed.
"Why did my clothing have to do with the family or your nephew, olivia. Why does it have to do with you? Why does it matter if I celebrate my birthday or not? Or if I have an untreated wound at my feet. Or why did it matter if I won the war against barbarians or not? If my knights were fed or not? All these things... Was it just because you care about Abi and leo?" He walked closer to her and she took a step back until her back hit the pillar.
He was so close. He had enveloped her in his presence. She could not move, she could not breath and she could not think. His dark eyes arrested her.
"You care for me. But you do not want to accept it." he announced as a matter of fact as he touched her cheeks. "Your body shivers whenever I touch you." his touch scalded her skin. But it also brought her back to her senses.
She pushed him away. The touch did not require much force, but he was prepared for it. He looked at her astonished when she glared at him.
