Chapter 51: A Fair Exchange
"What have you done?" Gabriella glared at her son as if she wanted to tear him apart. It was close to morning, but she did not even wink. The moment the party ended, she went straight to confront her son. "Did i not clear myself enough that i want isabella to be your partner. How could you hurt her?" her eyes shooting daggers at her husband.
In comparison to her infuriated and dark face, Edward looked much calmer as if they were only discussing a mundane affair. He passed a glass of water to her shaking mother.
"It was not me. It was lady Amber Lenhart. She is making sure her position never faces threat." he explained what happened in the garden except Olivia’s presence and her offer.
Gabriella’s face darkened further as she gnashed her teeth.
"And you let her." She laughed. "Do you think I have no idea about your abilities?" Leonard sighed. He knew that he could fool the world, but he could not like his mother.
"Mother, Isabella is too naive. When Amber approached, it was my test for her. If she had handled Amber on her own, I would have married her without a second thought. But just a few words from Amber and she cried like a child.
Do you think such a weak person could stand with me and fight for the throne? I do not want money and contacts only. I want a formidable ally who could handle anything. I want a strong partner so that I do not need to worry about backstabbing." Gabriella sighed.
She understands the heart of her son and her desires.
"Forget it, I will convince Diana to marry a stronger family first. You can take two weeks to finalize. But before making a decision, you must consult with me." Edward nodded. His face softened a lot and he hugged her mother.
