Chapter 499: An Object!
"That would not be needed." she stopped the man on his heels, making his eyes widened. Nora grinned watching his shock and nervousness. "From this moment on, I will not follow Chris Bernard anymore. But He will leave the country quietly, or I will destroy him before he tries another trick."
The man opened his mouth, then closed it again, stunned by her sheer decisiveness. But in the end, he grinned widely. For him, this was a victory — easy and clean.
"Of course, of course," he said hurriedly, bowing slightly in mock respect. "I’ll make the arrangements immediately. You’ll have no more trouble from Mr. Bernard."
Without waiting for another word, he spun on his heel and practically skipped back to his car, his glee evident in his bouncing steps. The car roared to life and disappeared out of the parking lot within moments.
The underground space returned to silence.
Evelyn remained standing awkwardly by the pillar, her torn dress clutched tightly in both fists, her body half-turned as if ready to bolt at the first harsh word.
Nora turned to face her fully, her arms crossed over her chest. Her sharp eyes ran over Evelyn, assessing her with the cool detachment one might give a piece of secondhand merchandise. There was no pity in her gaze, only calculation.
"You’re a mess," Nora stated plainly, her voice devoid of warmth. Evelyn flinched but said nothing, keeping her head bowed.
A small, humorless smile touched Nora’s lips.
