"You do not blame me, do you?" Emma laughed when she saw Nora’s eyes. The girl was smart to be fooled. I was ordered by my boss to keep an eye on you but supporting you was my choice." Nora stared at Alric with a cold glare.
"She is to keep an eye on me? To make sure that I do not harm Alex and fulfill my promise?" and here she thought that she had found rare friends. How foolish could she be!?
Looking at her red face, Alric frowned.
"No, she was there to make sure that you are safe. As she said, she was your bodyguard there." Nora only laughed at those words but her eyes were cold.
"And why would I need one? Why would you even provide me one?" It was nothing but a lie.
Alric did not like the accusing tone she used, but he still maintained his calm face.
"Because I was worried that I am putting your life in danger by asking you to follow Alex. I knew that he was dealing with the wrong people. And I was worried that you would be harmed in the crossfire. Emma had never reported anything to me. She had just helped you when needed." Emma nodded hurriedly as if she was worried that she would be misunderstood too.
Nora looked away. She did not understand why she was being too sensitive? Even if Alric had appointed someone to keep an eye on her, it only made sense since he had paid her a hefty sum.
She should only be thankful. But for some reason, she felt her chest tightening.
