"You are working hard these days!" Penny paused, surprised to see Nora leaning on the wall when she had come out of the princip[al’s office. She had expected everyone to leave a long time ago. After all, she had been inside for two hours asking questions about the exam.
Penny smirked looking at Nora who was leaning on the wall with her eyes closed. Her sweater had fallen and her clothes looked disheveled.
"Sister! You should rest more. With your one hand injured, the exam would only be a burden to you. You should give up on such things and rest."
Her remark was full of sarcasm but Nora only shrugged.
"What can I say! I have been trained to bear pain well. I do not even feel the pain from the wound anymore." Penny rolled her eyes. No one could ever be numb to pain. To prove that, she walked closer to Nora and held her wrist tightly. Nora gritted her teeth and yanked her hands away.
"Oh! I was only testing if you really are numb to the pain. I guess you still have some life left in you." if not for the cast, Penny would have already bruised her arms. "If you are here to demotivate me then you are a fool. I will soon rise up to the ranks and win that prize for myself."
"You can win that prize! But Benard had been chosen for me by your family. As long as I return and apologize to my aunt, I am sure she will fix our marriage date happily." Penny stiffened. Her eyes went cold, full of hatred. Looking at her reaction, Nora felt a strange relief.
"You know that my pic was sent to him right? Did he recognize me that day? Did he ask for me?" She leaned closer to the anxious penny and smiled. "Should I go and introduce myself to him?"
"Ha! It had been long ago and father had already told Chris that you had run away from the house. Do you think a gentleman like Chris would be interested in a run away girl? And for your information, no! He did not ask for you that day. He was only worried about me that he did not care about anything else. He held my hand and promised me that he would take care of me." she boosted but her panicked eyes gave away. It meant that Benard had still not chosen Penny. Why?
He was caring for her! Enough to win her heart before marriage. But after that..! Her eyes went cold. She had to help this fool.
"Ha! I do not believe that he would choose you. Aunt had told me that he liked reserved girls. One that gives him a challenge. He likes to win the hearts of girls!" to break them! To make them his conquest.’ a needle stabbed her heart as she thought about herself. She could see her image in Penny. But she did not feel any pity for penny.
"While you darling," Nora continued, "are fawning over him. You are trying so hard to win him that he will soon lose interest in you and come for me." she announced with a grin that Penny wanted to slap Nora.
