Chapter 10: Test Her
"What?" Penny screamed loudly as she glared at her father. "Why do I need to leave my room for the night? If she is sick, she should rest in her room." a look of disbelief crossed her face when her father took side of Nora. it had never happened before.
Most of the time, her father behaved like Nora did not exist. He did not meddle in anything related to her. Why did he care for her suddenly? She tried to recall everything from the past week and her mind stilled on today's event.
They really wanted Nora to marry that rich man. That is why they care for her health now. But why? She did not understand.
"Papa," she spoke in a soft voice. Since childhood, Penny has been a pampered child. She had gotten everything she wanted. So she could not believe that her family would stop favoring her now and that also for Nora?
The girl did not deserve to be loved since she was an orphan. If she wanted love, she should go where her parents were and demand love from them. Simple!
She did not feel a hint of guilt as she wrapped her arms around her father's arm and leaned on his shoulder.
"Papa, why are you so angry with me? I was only trying to help you?" she pouted and spoke in an aggrieved voice. "I have heard mother telling Nora that she needs to attend the guest and take care of him since he is a very important person. He is your boss. So when my sister did not arrive, I only took his place so that your boss would not be angry." she explained in an extra sweet voice.
David closed his eyes. He knew Penny was mixing some lies in the truth. But to think that his daughter was only thinking about his welfare warmed his heart. He let out a sigh and his body started to relax.
"Today was an important day for me, Penny. The man had the ability to offer me bonus shares, if that would have happened, i would have gotten the position of chairman not only because of his favor but in reality.
Then, even if I lost his favor one day, I would not have worried about my position. The company would have belonged to me." he softly regretted as he ran a hand in his hair. He had so many expectations from today but everything went to waste.
His mood became foul at once and Penny noticed it with the way he mumbled a curse in his mouth. But she did not pay attention to it. Her mind concentrated on the power that man held. And he was handsome.
