Apocalyse: Marked by Chaos

Chapter 108 - 107 Burning Grief

Olivia’s eyes turned to Luke’s lifeless body. Her emotionless eyes softened. She slowly walked towards him.

Her steps burned everything she stepped on. She knelt beside him, her hands reached out to him, but she stopped midway, returning them to her side.

She was afraid she might burn him. She wanted to believe this was all a lie, a nightmare. But no matter how many times she closed and opened her eyes, she could not wake from it.

The wound on his chest, the blood staining his face was a cruel reminder that it was all real. Right then, she swore to avenge him. She swore to eliminate every monster.

She stared mindlessly at him, while letting her fire take on the rage she was feeling. Her flames roared around them like a barrier, enlarging every passing minute. It burned the trees, incinerating them to nothing but ashes.

The fire roared, spreading out, destroying every life it came across. Meanwhile, in the barrier, it was so calm as if time had stopped for a moment, like she was in a world of her own.

All the conversations she had with Luke, including the first time they met. His gruff voice, his braveness and that gentle side to his rough exterior, his smiles and... his last words, all replayed in her head like a broken tape.

Meanwhile, Lucian, who had been looking for her, finally found her. He halted on the spot as if he was stuck by glue.

From the blazing fire, he could see her kneeling down, staring at a body. He didn’t need to get closer to know who the person was.
