Chapter 138: Turn The Fate
Eryx stood still, the name lingering in the air like a threat, his gaze never leaving Gordon’s trembling form. The sound of the bat lowering echoed in the silence, and the tension seemed to leave the room like a vacuum.
Without a word, he turned sharply on his heel, his mind already focused on the next steps.
"Callum," Eryx’s voice was low, commanding. "Throw all the men in front of the main mansion. Let her see what happens when you play a game with me."
Callum, who had been waiting for the signal, immediately nodded and began making arrangements.
As the sound of Callum’s footsteps echoed behind him, carrying out the order, Eryx paused at the edge of the hallway, the cold draft from a broken window brushing against his skin. He let out a slow breath, his jaw tight.
Matilda Grantham.
He had always known she was ruthless when it came to power and control. But this... this was different. Trying to end his life, not just manipulate it, not just punish him, but end it? That shook something deep within him.
His fists clenched at his sides.
All his life, she’d treated him like a pawn, shaping him, pushing him, correcting him with cruelty she disguised as discipline. But never once had he believed she’d go this far.
"I guess I am useless now," Eryx muttered under his breath, more to himself than anyone else. "But to play with my life like it’s a piece on a board..."
Callum approached from behind, careful with his steps. "They’re being moved now, sir. Should be on her lawn in ten minutes."
