Chapter 50: The Sudden Protective Husband
The car moved steadily through the city, sunlight streaming through the windows, but inside, the atmosphere was anything but calm. Lunara sat rigidly, her fingers gripping the fabric of her skirt. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t stop the faint tremble in her hands.
Eryx’s cold demeanor hadn’t changed. He crossed his legs, his jaw tight as he finally broke the silence. "No more modeling jobs," he said flatly. "I’ll tell my mother myself."
Lunara inhaled sharply. "I’m not quitting." Her voice was quiet, but determined.
Eryx scoffed. "Why do you need to work? I’ll give you all the money you want. And after what happened today, you still want to continue?"
Her frustration started rising. "Then why did you have to come and make things worse?!"
Eryx’s eyes flicked toward her, sharp and unrelenting. "You called me!"
She flinched, surprised by the sudden rise in his voice. Pouting slightly, she blinked, trying to hold back the lingering fear from earlier.
Eryx exhaled sharply, leaning back against the seat. His fingers curled against his knee, tension still evident in his posture. He wasn’t used to this, seeing her afraid of him. His frustration wasn’t meant for her, but the way she recoiled made something uneasy settle in his chest.
Lunara turned her face toward the window. "I called you because I needed help," she muttered. "Not for you to... to do that."
