Chapter 23: His Wife
Eryx’s smirk faded as he watched Lunara. Her lips trembled, and her eyes glistened like she was holding back tears. His brows furrowed in confusion.
"What now?" His voice lost its teasing edge.
Lunara clenched her fists on her lap, her knuckles turning white. "Do you think this is funny?" Her voice was quiet, but the weight behind it was heavy. "Dragging me around like this... forcing me into your games?"
His jaw tightened. "It’s not a game."
"Then what is it?" She let out a shaky breath, blinking rapidly as if refusing to let a single tear fall. "You don’t even remember me, do you?"
Eryx froze. A strange, uneasy feeling settled in his chest. "Do I need to know you?"
Lunara scoffed, "You want to get married to me without knowing who I am?" Her frown deepened, "And I think the first one that needs to get divorce is you. I heard from you mother yesterday, you are married. Isn’t it?"
Eryx’s brows furrowed. "My mother told you that?"
Lunara scoffed, crossing her arms. "Oh, so you do remember that you’re married?" Her voice wavered, but she forced a mocking smile. "And here you are, trying to marry me. Shouldn’t you get a divorce first?"
Eryx exhaled sharply. His mother. Of course, she would bring this up. His fingers curled into fists as he processed her words.
"I know I’m married," he said, his tone colder now. "That’s not the point."
