Chapter 68: Sin on legs
"Let him in," Ashley said, her voice firm.
Claire gave a curt nod and left, surprised that Ashley wanted to see Vincent Broom after everything that had happened. But, on second thought, she figured Ashley might be tired of Vincent’s persistent visits and simply wanted to find out what he was after. The old man had been frequenting the company at least twice a week since the crisis was resolved.
A moment later, Vincent walked into Ashley’s office with forced confidence, his steps measured. His heart skipped a beat when Ashley slowly lifted her gaze from the paperwork on her desk and locked eyes with him.
"Mister Vincent," she called smoothly, a brief thin smile crossing her lips. "Please, have a seat."
"Thank you for finally agreeing to see me, Ms. Flynn," Vincent said as he sat.
Ashley jotted something on a piece of paper before returning her gaze to him. She noted his stiff posture—an indication of nervousness.
It gave her a strange sense of power.
"Ms. Flynn, I’m truly sorry for how we got here," Vincent apologized, sensing the silence and stillness from the woman in front of him.
An impatient smile crossed Ashley’s lips before she responded.
"Actually, I barely have ten minutes to spare for this meeting," she started, checking her wristwatch. "So, please skip the apologies and get straight to why you’re here." Her words were polite, but her tone wasn’t.
Her intense gaze made Vincent shift uncomfortably, as if a hot coal was under his seat. He never imagined he would feel so small under anyone’s scrutiny, especially not a woman who could be his daughter. But she wasn’t his daughter, and this was business. He had to swallow his pride if he wanted back in.
