Chapter 62: No wedding
"What?" Christian coughed, nearly losing control of the steering wheel. "You want me to cheat on you?" His voice was filled with shock.
He stared at her, trying to keep his composure. He wanted her to know that cheating was the last thing he’d ever do. But deep down, he couldn’t help but hope she’d insist.
"I—No," she replied, scratching her neck and smiling sheepishly. "I mean... it was one of your fantasies when you were with that whore you called a wife. And up until now, you still haven’t done it."
She leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a whisper. "Just me and a naive, petite blonde... as a reward for forgiving me for the ring." She added a playful wink at the end.
Christian loved blondes. In fact, Ashley was the only one who had ever managed to catch his interest without being one, and that was because, even with her dark hair, her beauty had been irresistible.
He hesitated for a moment before responding, "If that’s what you want, then... I guess it’s fair," he shrugged.
His stomach flipped with excitement, but he kept a neutral expression. This was a dream come true.
One of the reasons Christian could never break up with Kayla was because she would go to any lengths to make him happy—or earn his forgiveness when she wronged him.
"Speaking of fair, when are we going to start planning our wedding, Chris?" Kayla cooed, pouting.
Christian returned his eyes to the road, focusing. "We’ll have that conversation soon, Kay. I just need time to take care of a few things first. Make your family comfortable. I don’t want you pawning off my wedding ring when I’m not looking," he teased, and she laughed. "Just relax and enjoy, baby. Okay?" He touched the tip of her jaw, giving her a reassuring smile.
He only had to keep playing it smart. He wasn’t ready to tie himself to any stupid vows again. Not now. Not ever. But he couldn’t tell her that—he feared she’d leave him.
