Chapter 56: Unleashed
The bidding event continued after Kayla and Christian left, and close to the end, Ashley excused herself to use the restroom.
She found it amusing, if not slightly annoying that she’d lost the Van Gogh’s Starry Night painting, which she had planned to buy for her grandpa, to none other than Lorenzo. She still didn’t know what had gotten into him when he battled her and another bidder for it, smirking victoriously the entire time.
In the end, they both lost to him at $26 million. Since then, Lorenzo had been grinning like he’d just won the lottery. Ashley couldn’t deny he was a little infuriating. He’d also bought the diamond ring Christian had made a fuss over, and she couldn’t help but wonder what he planned to do with it. Lorenzo Grey was the true definition of petty.
As she neared the ladies’ restroom, following the arrows, she began to hear sniffing sounds, like someone crying.
She considered turning back, but she was very pressed, so she pushed the door open. To her relief, she didn’t see anyone in the mirror area, and when she listened closely, she realized the person was likely in one of the toilets. So, she entered the free one and peed. By the time she was done, the crying had stopped, and she suspected the person had quieted down when they heard her enter.
Ashley couldn’t help but wonder if the lady was okay. Upon stepping out of the toilet, the person had left, and she felt a bit of relief that they didn’t get to meet because she wouldn’t have known what to say and then it would be awkward.
Just when she was going to leave, she bumped onto Kayla at the main door, walking in.
Kayla glared dangerously at Ashley the minute she spotted her, sizing her up like a predator ready to seize its prey. As much as the mere sight of the cold hearted-bitch always irritated Ashley, she wasn’t in the mood for any drama at the moment.
So, she stepped aside to let Kayla go in so she could leave, but instead of doing that, Kayla moved to block her path.
