Chapter 109: Now or Never
(MILES)
The cabin backdoor is locked and I’m afraid the SUV is too close for me to slip out without them seeing me. The vehicle approaches closer and I try to not panic. I would have escaped through the windows, but most of them are small and face the road. I grit my teeth and hurry into the bathroom then size up with the window. At least this one is facing the back of the property and a bit bigger than the rest of them.
It is not a big window by any means. It is long and narrow yet I’m tall and built like a tank. I don’t think I can squeeze through the space, because getting stuck right now would be a disaster.
I stride back into the main room and then to the kitchen. There’s no way I’m getting out of this cabin without using the front door I watch as the SUV trails the bumpy road approaching us. My only means of getting out of the cabin unnoticed is in the fact that there is a row of spruce trees that line up in the road. Whoever occupies the car will lose the cabin view for a few minutes when it passes behind them.
The SUV approaches the blind spot. Perspiration breaks out of my face as I watch them. I have to make my timing perfect. That blind spot really is the only hope. It disappears behind the row of trees and I hold my breath then bolt like a bat out of hell towards the back of the cabin. I doubt that Arlo is aware of the approaching car. As soon as I reach the carport, I notice that he isn’t aware. He is kneeling at the foot of the bike, oblivious to the approaching disaster.
"Arlo," I yell.
"What?" he frowns, looking at me.
"Incoming," I yell as I slide to a halt beside him. "The SUV. It’s Dalton’s men."
"What?" he asks, panic coursing through his pretty green eyes.
