His Mafia Prince

Chapter 100: The Ones You Least Expect

The sound of footsteps upstairs makes us both freeze. Adrenaline begins to course through me like a tsunami. They came in earlier than we thought they would. I nod to Arlo and we retreat to hide beside the alcoves. I press myself into the small area. I’m literally shaking but I’m so pumped for the fight. It’s now or never. The moment of truth. I’m ready to die. I just hope to God that it isn’t my time yet. When the door at the top of the stairs opens, I hear a thud of boots on the steps. The blood is rushing to my head so fast that it’s hard to hear. I grab the fishing pole, hoping that it does the job as I expected it to. The variables are too many so it is almost impossible to feel confident. Relying on Arlo also terrifies me because I’m not aware of his capabilities. We can’t communicate by looking at each other. All in banking on are hopes that he has good instincts on when to strike.

The two younger alphas from yesterday reach the bottom of the stairs and head past us. They stop a few feet away, probably waiting for their eyes to adjust to the dark. Just like l thought. I see Dalton too, although he hesitates for a bit and stands back. All three approach the cot at the end of the room, and Arlo springs from his hiding spot and attacks the alpha nearest to him.

Being that Arlo caught the guy by surprise, he manages to spear the guy square in his face. A horrifying gurgling sound escapes the guy as blood splatters on the side of his cheek. Arlo doesn’t budge or hesitate. He yanks the pole out of the first alpha and as the guy falls to the ground, he slams it on the second alpha.

The first alpha has barely hit the ground when I lunge at Dalton. He growls loudly and begins to take a leap towards the stairs behind him. I ram the rod on the side of his neck. He must notice my presence because he raises his arm instinctively at the last second. The pole stabs through his upper arm and he grunts in pain. I swear under my breath because I missed my target, which was his eye socket. Arlo continues wrestling with the second alpha as I yank off the pole attached to Dalton’s arm, trying to pull it out so that I can yank it into his eye socket again.

A loud bang rings in my ears as a gun discharges beside me and for a few seconds, I can’t hear. No bullets rip through my flesh. What I’m not sure about however is whether Arlo has been hit or not. Even so, I can’t stop to find out. I manage to yank the pole out of Dalton’s arm and try to jab it against his throat again, but the fucker manages to block me. I snarl and kick the side of his leg sideways. The sound of a bone snapping is loud enough. Dalton screams as he falls to the ground.

I’m still not sure whether Arlo has been hit or not. So, I sneak a quick glance and find him wrestling for the gun. The guy is more built and more burly than Arlo. He is muscle-bound. I realize that he is winning the fight and my gut churns. He is inches away from blowing the omega’s brains off. I should just finish off Dalton but for some reason, I’m drawn to helping Arlo. I swear, diving towards them and shoving the gun away from Arlo’s face.

The gun goes off and for a moment, Arlo looks stunned. He isn’t sure whether he has been hit or not. I summon all the strength left in me and punch the alpha’s head as hard as I can. He falls to the ground unconscious. Arlo grabs the gun off the guy’s hand and stands over him. He puts a bullet in his face. Gore and blood shoot from below his head.
