Chapter 162: Seas, Borders, and Alliances
- - Julius POV - -
Ahhh this sea breeze is really the best.
Julius was standing at the bow of one of his repossessed warships staring out at the expansive sea stretched before them as the land swiftly slid by their view to the right.
Julius was enacting his plan to absorb what remains of the Lunan kingdom, while also giving Visigoth a reason not to get involved in this technical civil war.
If Visigoth learned Julius had acquired himself the Grand Fleet, their own territory would become at risk as Julius had already proven himself an accomplished commander on land so any invasion would be costly but if he could then attack their rear with a navy their own lands would suffer causing their forces loss of morale, and possible shortage of supplies or even worse being recalled to defend the homefront.
But against an opponent whose superior on land drawing forces away reduces their chance to win since their only advantage would be their strength in numbers.
Should they be able to absorb what is left of Lunan and Bridget his lands and total number of citizens would double or triple which would in due course allow the increased support of a larger army and navy, however taking over all that remains of Lunan would mean a border with Visigoth and with the current national climate that border will be hot, though it’s highly unlikely that Visigoth will do anything, aside from some minor harassment since they’ve suffered needless losses in their conquest of Lunan, still need forces to police the newly conquered areas, and then with the King’s conquest of the Herald kingdom further putting a strain on their military at least for the next few years.
But with their conquering The newly founded Grand Duchy would come to have borders with numerous other nations, though their opinion of us presently is mostly likely pretty neutral since we founded as the lowest rung of an official nation rather than immediately jumping to declare ourselves a kingdom which politically would mean we think we’re just as grand as those nation’s who’ve survived for generations.
The biggest threat to our growing power would be the other two major factions who belong to one of the Twelve original families of the Ancient Empire.
To our West we would border with The Germanic Confederation, a nation of bloodthirsty warriors who fight like barbarians, wielding huge war axes, axemen with shields, and worst of all are the zealots who fight naked while wielding greatswords, ugh that is one battle one need mental fortitude to survive unscathed.
Then to our East, we would come to border The Parthian Sultanate who are skilled cavalrymen who specialize in mounted archers or spearmen.
Both of these nations border the Great Sea and have their own navies though not nearly as grand as Latinum’s but we need to be on our guard in the future to prevent piracy over our trade routes and possible raiding of our lands from the sea.
