Chapter 19: Special Friend
Zevian couldn’t help but smile at Evelyn’s reaction, feeling the heat rise within him in tandem with her anticipation. He had deliberately foregone wearing the hoodie earlier, fully expecting her reaction. Now, however, his own plans to tease her were backfiring as the urge to kiss her overwhelmed his senses.
Yet, there were matters regarding his past marriage with Katherine and Kiana’s birth that needed to be cleared before he could pursue anything with Evelyn. He thought, controlling himself.
Evelyn’s heart pounded in her chest, feeling Zevian get even closer, his face just a hair’s breadth away from hers. She held her breath, waiting for what seemed inevitable. A few frustrating seconds passed, and instead of his lips, she felt the soft fabric of the brush against her shoulders.
Evelyn fluttered her eyes open, her brows creasing in confusion. She looked at him, then at the gray hoodie in his hand. Wait, he had leaned over to take his hoodie and not kiss her?!
Her cheeks flushed red again, both with embarrassment and frustration as she saw him donning the garment ever so innocently. She cursed herself for falling for his tricks once more!
"There, all covered up," Zevian said playfully, his eyes still locked on hers. "I won’t roam shirtless again."
"Jerk," Evelyn muttered under her breath, glaring at him. Frustration boiled over, and without hesitation, she stepped forward and stomped on his foot before storming out of the dining hall.
"Ow!" Zevian winced, then chuckled softly.
The workers who were around couldn’t help but squeal at the couple’s intimacy. So the rumor was indeed true. Many thought having heard that Evelyn was Zevian’s first love from Avery herself. After everything their master had gone through in his past marriage, they couldn’t help but wish for him to find the happiness he truly deserved.
