Chapter 92: Consequences
His gaze followed Mirian’s, his piercing eyes locking onto Kira.
"G-Gamma Kira," Mirian stuttered, her voice a barely audible whisper as she scrambled to her feet, her eyes wide with a mix of surprise and guilt. In her haste, she lost her footing on the loose gravel, her arms flailing wildly as she teetered on the edge of the cliff. "Ahh!"
She thought she’d plummet to her death, but a strong arm snaked around her waist, pulling her back from the brink with a swift, sure motion. Zeta Detroit’s grip was like a vice, holding her secure as she trembled with fear, her heart racing in her chest.
Kira panicked about to shoot forward, but seeing Zeta Detroit’s swift rescue, her fear gave way to relief.
But she expected him to let Mirian go immediately, but he didn’t.
Her wolf eyes narrowed, zeroing in on the Zeta’s hand still wrapped possessively around Mirian’s waist. A low, warning growl rumbled in her throat, her hackles rising as she took a step forward, her paws planted firmly on the ground.
Mirian’s eyes darted nervously to Kira, her face pale as she sensed the rising tension. She hesitated for a moment before gently prying his hand from her waist, her voice soft as she spoke, "It’s okay, Gamma Kira. I’m fine."
But her words did little to ease Kira’s growing unease, her wolf senses on high alert as she continued to regard Detroit with a wary gaze.
’Return with me,’ Kira mind-linked, her mental voice firm but laced with a hint of urgency. ’Now, Mirian.’
