Chapter 8: Does My Luna Like It?
"Anything?" Reana avoided the question, her exhausted body protesting as she dragged herself out of bed to change clothes. Yesterday's mental exertion had left her drained, and she desperately needed a few days of rest to recharge. But time was a luxury she couldn't afford.
"I came to inform you that the warriors are ready," Kira announced. "I've selected fifty powerful warriors, and they're awaiting your parting words."
Reana's eyes narrowed. "Double the number. I want fifty to fall behind as reinforcements. If something unexpected happens, they'll have time to send a message."
Kira's eyes sparkled, "Brilliant idea! I'll take care of it immediately."
As Kira turned to leave, she hesitated and looked back at Reana, her expression curious. "I heard you had the beta locked up. Unpleasant rumors are circulating, and people are confused about the reason..." Kira didn't finish. The rumor was unpleasant - some said the Luna punished the beta because of a servant who she was having an affair with.
"Because they feel it's improper to humiliate whom they thought would be their Alpha?" Reana's tone was matter-of-fact, her expression indicating she already knew the answer.
Kira nodded in agreement, then her brow furrowed in confusion. "But, Luna, I don't understand. If someone like me can uncover Ryan's secrets, surely you must know them too. So why tolerate him? You could expose him and end the pressure to marry him."
Reana turned, her robe fluttering around her, and met Kira's curious gaze. "What if I don't know what he's hiding?"
Why won't Reana know? She just wanted to know how perceptive and informative Kira was. Kira had brute force. She was one of the strongest warriors, even stronger than Ryan. But she lacked the brains for politics and schemes.
