Chapter 30: Call of the Night
By the time Klaus and Briar finished shopping and returned, the sun had already set, and night had fallen.
Apparently, shopping could be rather tiring. Klaus had underestimated just how much Briar wanted and ended up buying her a variety of outfits, ranging from casual wear to winter coats, along with essential accessories and several pairs of shoes. What started as a simple errand had turned into an extensive shopping spree, leaving Klaus both physically drained and financially lighter (exaggeration). He had also bought her the latest iPad model, which set him back 899€, along with headsets for both of them. At least, he took the opportunity to upgrade his smartphone to the latest model as well.
Briar, on the other hand, seemed strangely content as she carried her bags with an air of satisfaction. Though she hadn't been the most enthusiastic at the start, she had gradually gotten into the flow of things, especially after trying on different styles.
"Didn't think you'd end up enjoying shopping this much," Klaus remarked, adjusting the weight of his own share of the bags.
The succubus cast him a sideways glance. Her expression was neutral but her tail, if it hadn't been hidden, might have flicked happily.
"I wouldn't say I enjoyed it."
"Right, sure. Then why did you end up getting more than we originally planned?"
"Aren't you the same person that said I could buy anything I wanted?"
"Well, I can't argue with that."
She huffed lightly but didn't bother pressing further. Instead, her gaze shifted toward the illuminated streets of the Imperial City, where neon lights reflected off the smooth surfaces of buildings, casting an almost surreal atmosphere.
The city's vibrance never seemed to fade, even late at night. It was a stark contrast to the demon realm, where shadows ruled the landscape, and survival took precedence over trivial luxuries like shopping.
