Chapter 26: Blissful Morning
"... Hah!"
Following that gasp, Klaus Martinez finally awakened from his slumber. Only when he saw the familiar ceiling of his crappy apartment did his chaotic heartbeat finally begin to settle.
What the hell was that? He thought in a cold sweat.
It had been too realistic to be just a simple dream. He could still recall the sensation of bleeding out, the overwhelming certainty that he was about to die. There was no way something like that was just a dream. He refused to believe it.
Lying on his bed, staring up at the ceiling, Klaus realized his breathing was still uneven. Then—
"Ah... You're finally awake."
A sudden voice.
When he lowered his gaze, he found a girl sitting on top of him, straddling his hips with her thighs pinning him in place. Both of her hands rested lightly on his chest, and she wore an impish expression.
Briar looked down at him with a teasing glint in her eyes.
"Morning."
"... Morning."
