Chapter 291: Fool
"His Highness... or rather, His Majesty wants to tell you something. He said you’ve been a good and loyal servant, so... he’ll let you die with honor."
Die with honor.
Even in this era where wars were a frequent problem solver for any dispute, Jackson had never understood where that idea came from.
Was there honor in death?
After being on the battlefield all his life, he had never seen anyone die with honor. Die with pride, perhaps. Die while fighting for what they believe, die fighting to protect their people and their land.
Only those who hadn’t stepped on the battlefield would say honor at the mention of war and death. It was simply a way to encourage or motivate anyone to fight for them so they could keep enjoying their lives in their palace and mansions.
Despite the unknown creatures who acted and talked like men and despite the dreadful news of the crown prince’s malevolent plans, Jackson fought bravely with everything he had. The crown prince had forsaken them, but all these soldiers were still fighting. Hence, Jackson didn’t think and simply held onto his sword and fought.
No matter how many times he would get slashed and no matter how much blood he had spilled, he would keep standing up again and again. He would fall, but rise to the point even the monsters who came to take him down couldn’t help but wonder:
Who was the real monster here?
