Why was Fil surprised about that? If Marcus could have such an evil plan to make Elise suffer, she should know what else he could do. But alas, it still felt different now that Michael said it.
"Michael..." Her voice lowered, pursing her lips into a thin line. "How come you weren’t surprised when I told you Marcus was bugging me?"
Michael slowly raised a brow before he casually said, "I’m unemployed and had nothing else to do but snoop around my friend’s business."
"For fun?"
"Take it whatever fits your taste." He shrugged. "I don’t really care."

"Now that I know he won’t kill me, then fine." Fil smacked her lips and rose from her seat. "At least I know I’m not walking to my own death sentence. Thanks for being honest and... thanks for the advice three months ago."
Michael rocked his head, watching her prance away. "Hey," he called, making her look back at him. "Don’t push him so much. I did say he might not kill you, but that doesn’t mean he won’t harm you. He’s the man who gets everything he wants and when I say everything, I mean everything. That includes people."
"I can protect myself." She smiled. "Thank you."
