The Devil's Good Girl

Chapter 135: One act of kindness

"Vincent had an accident."

Marcus and Fil held each other’s gaze when those four words rolled out of her tongue. Four words and Marcus could already foresee where this was going. Even so, he offered to drive her to the hospital where Vincent was admitted.

The entire journey was spent in silence, with Marcus glancing at Fil every once in a while. Her expression was solemn, making it hard for him to read what was on her mind. However, the way she clasped her hands on her lap so tightly was enough for him to know.

She was worried.

’Damn it,’he mentally hissed, slowing down as they entered the hospital’s driveway. When he stopped, he turned his head to her.

Fil glanced at the window before she looked back at him. "Thank you for the ride," was all she said while unbuckling her seat.

Fil was about to get out when Marcus suddenly grabbed her wrist. Looking back, the first thing she saw was the little flame in his eyes. By the looks of it, he wanted to tell her something. However, he said nothing.

"I have to see him," she offered him a meek smile. "Thank you."

His lips parted, but no word came out. Marcus could only nod before he slowly released her hand. Once he did, Fil unhesitatingly stepped out of the car and jogged her way to the entrance. Marcus kept his eyes on her back, sighing once she was out of his sight.

"Seriously," he hissed, readjusting his position to drive away. "Is this his plan to win her back? This is so pathetic."

Marcus punched the steering wheel in frustration. The vein in his forehead protruded, grinding his teeth in irritation. He took some time to gather himself before he drove away. After all, he couldn’t come with Fil, as it would only raise more questions.
