Chapter 97: Expectations and reality
"They broke up because of you. You don’t know?"
Marcus drew a deep breath, looking at Marianne with confusion. He studied her expression and he could tell she was telling the truth.
"Me?" he repeated. "And why would they break up because of me?"
"Because Vincent thinks you’re making moves on her behind his back." Marianne shrugged. "Who knows? Are you?"
Marcus scoffed, walking in the same spot while keeping his eyes on her. "Are you asking me if I am just like you?" his voice was laced with obvious sarcasm. "No, Marianne. I’m not like you who would fuck your best friend’s fiance and smile at her face as if you’re the immaculate friend she could trust."
"Hah!" Marianne scoffed.
"You might’ve been very disappointed, huh?" Marcus continued, not having any reason to be nice to her. She started this. Hence, he would gladly be the jerk she didn’t see coming. "Fil confided in you and you found out that they broke up. Vincent didn’t tell you about it, and it upset you."
"I’m sure you went to him so you can appear as the good wife material as what you think he should see you, but he didn’t want you. So that upsets you more. Now, you came here because?" Marcus cocked his head to the side, looking at her with ridicule. "Don’t tell me you came here because you think this is enough to make me go to him and punch him in the face?"
Marianne maintained a cold and fierce front but didn’t say anything. Meanwhile, Marcus couldn’t help but laugh mockingly.
