The Devil's Good Girl

Chapter 70: Making out with her lover.

Everywhere they looked were fields with barely any lights around. Houses stood at a great distance from each other. It hadn’t reached midnight, but everything was dark and quiet. People had already resigned to bed. It was almost refreshing, as it was completely different from the city.

In the city, everyone was still out and about at this hour. The different lights from the establishments almost looked as though it was daytime.

"I almost forgot that I was like this too." Fil broke the silence between her and Jackson, walking leisurely on the rough path. "It’s already considered late if I sleep at ten. Then, I wake up at the break of dawn, prepare for school, and then already headed to school at six. I used to walk my way to school until my grandpa got me a bicycle."

A subtle smile turned up on her face, keeping her eyes ahead and her hand in his grip. "I didn’t think I wasn’t visiting them that much until recently."

"Until you realized the reason you hadn’t been visiting them isn’t worth making such a sacrifice?"

"Mhm." Fil cast him a quick look. "That’s exactly the truth. If not for that, I’m probably at home right now and trying to catch up on all the work I have. I sometimes put my tasks aside to finish their requests. Them... meaning Vincent’s friends."

"It’s not like it’s only their fault. I tried so hard to fit in that I thought I was doing the right thing," she added with a bitter chuckle. "Anyway, that’s already in the past. I changed now and I’m just glad I was slapped by the harsh truth earlier."

"Me too."

Fil looked at him with furrowed brows. "What do you mean by that?"
