Chapter 96: Falling Out (2)
[The Academy Tournament will commence next Wednesday. The event will be broadcast live across the Alliance. We welcome everyone to watch civilly and cheer for the students.]
The tournament was a major event in the Alliance, and the people enthusiastically discussed it, leaving messages on the websites of their favorite schools, urging them to send their best new students to compete.
Many, sensing an opportunity, began predicting the format and content of the Academy Tournament tests. Some even set up betting pools, inviting gamblers to wager on which academy would ultimately claim victory.
Yuka didn’t have much of a reaction to this, but Toru, still in the lab, became anxious when he heard about it.
He originally planned to finish his experiment at the Alliance Science Academy before the Academy Tournament and sneak out the evidence he found to give to Yuka. But just yesterday, he quietly slipped into Humphrey’s office during a 15-second surveillance gap, pried open Humphrey’s drawer, and prepared to take out the notebook Humphrey had placed at the very bottom.
After days of secret observation, he knew Humphrey valued this notebook greatly, and it surely contained important clues.
However, just as he opened the drawer, Humphrey’s voice rang out behind him, "What are you doing?"
Facing Humphrey’s smiling eyes, Toru broke into a cold sweat, but still not knowing how to lie, he stuttered, "I, I..."
Luckily, Tanaka’s student arrived in time, telling Humphrey he had asked Toru to come in to get a special reagent. Toru, unable to find the specific reagent, was searching around.
