"And you didn’t think to tell me?" I questioned rather sharply.

"It’s not like I knew your surname. You just..."

I stared at her, my heart racing as she tilted her head, her expression unreadable.

"You don’t have to worry," she said after a moment. "I’m here to work, nothing more."

But as she turned to rejoin the group, I couldn’t shake the feeling that nothing about this was as simple as she wanted me to believe.
