Chapter 157: How Is This Thing Getting Stronger?
Leo watched a ten-foot-tall devil appear in front of him while holding a massive axe, and the power radiating off the being matched his strength. When he felt this, his blue eyes shone with excitement, ’’Finally. Someone who can give me a good fight,’’ he exclaimed.
The enemy gave no response, only a blur of motion as it dashed forward with shocking speed. Leo barely had time to react before the axe came crashing down. He raised his arms in defense just as the weapon struck.
It sent him skidding backward, his feet tearing through the earth. ’’Well, that hurt, but it’s good to feel pain after weeks of fighting,’’ he said before charging at the devil.
They started trading blows as Leo landed dozens of California Smashes that destroyed the enemy’s armor. Moments later, the devil got angry and managed to land a powerful punch that sent him flying.
He landed on his feet but noticed the enemy summoned to massive wings before taking to the sky. The devil started casting Dark Blasts in his direction, forcing him to use his mana to dodge the spells.
Explosions erupted all around Leo, but he cast Mana Barrier, which blocked the shockwaves. With a single beat of its colossal wings, it lunged forward, swinging its axe in an arc meant to cleave him in two.
He sidestepped at the last second, the fiery blade carving a deep trench into the earth where he had stood. With lightning reflexes, he countered, his sword, glowing with celestial energy, slashed upward, aiming for the devil’s exposed side.
The blade struck true, but instead of cutting through, it sent a shower of black sparks flying as the devil’s armor absorbed the blow. Leo grunted when the pain shot through his body, which made the devil grin. ’’Pathetic.’’
Without warning, it slammed a gauntleted fist into his chest, launching him backward like a comet. He crashed through a ruined pillar, rubble exploding in all directions. Coughing, he pushed himself up, wiping blood from his lips.
