The Knight's Mysterious Maid

Chapter 299: Unwelcomed arrival (1)

A day later, Rafael and the Callahan knights arrived at the border where the border guards were set up to stop outsiders from entering the kingdom.

As expected, they weren’t given a warm welcome even when Rafael showed that he was sent by the king to take over. Rafael paid no attention to the guard’s cold reaction to seeing him here and instead led the knights to find somewhere to set up camp.

"If I were them, I would be happy to see us. They are finally getting the extra help they requested, but they aren’t happy to see us. Like we have forgotten they sent some of their men to try to convince us to come here," Logan said, keeping an eye on the guards.

He wouldn’t put past the guards to try picking a fight with one of the knights. Rafael was normally their target as they attempted to make him act out of character.

"News of the missing guards must have reached them already. Their captain still thinks that Rafael killed his men. We should have killed them," Christian said, regretting that he didn’t. He would feel less annoyed if their claims were true and he had the satisfaction of killing a few guards.

"Pay no attention to them," Rafael said as he tied his horse to a tree. He would be stuck here forever if he paid attention to the guards. "Focus on putting up our tents and gathering a group to ride out to inspect the land. We also need some knights on patrol of our camp. I will send home anyone who gets involved in an unnecessary fight."

"I will try my best not to fight right now. We’ve got annoying company," Logan said, getting down from his horse as Martin approached them.

"Easy there. We’re all on the same side," Martin said, stopping at more than three arm’s length from where Rafael stood. He wouldn’t be able to get any closer to Rafael since Rafael’s little dogs were blocking the path. "It is good to finally have the knights here. After I spent my good time requesting that you join us, you show up only after the king makes the order. Wagging your tail as usual."

"Wouldn’t that mean that you are also a dog? We all move when the king gives us a command," Christian said, shaking his head at Martin’s stupidity.
