The Knight's Mysterious Maid

Chapter 193: Knowing when to quit (1)

"You sure took your sweet time to come out here and handle your knights. What could have been more important in your tent when you were hearing all of this yelling from your knights? I almost had to kill a few of your knights" said Martin Flynn, one of the captains for the border guards.

Rafael ignored Martin and created a path between his knights and the guards. There were so many townspeople around and all this fighting between the people meant to be keeping the kingdom safe would reach the king and the court which would send letters to annoy him.

"Get back," Rafael said to his knights as he pushed toward his tent so there would be space between them and the guards.

"I sent three guards to this town to get the list of men who would be joining us and bring those who were ready. Care to explain why only one returned and the other two cannot be found? I was told they visited you," Martin said, keeping his hand on his sword in case Rafael would try something.

He didn’t trust the knights and their bastard of a commander. The moment he heard two of his guards were missing and they had met with Rafael, he sped up his travel to be here to get to the bottom of the missing men.

"Maybe they ran away. Ever thought of that?" Rafael asked since it wouldn’t be the first time men ran away from their duties. Many were scared to take part in the war at the border.

Rafael had not heard about any missing men and the border guards did not concern him. Martin should go to the town guards to report it instead of disrupting his event.

Martin grinned, entertained by Rafael’s attitude. "Border guards would not run away from their duty. Marcellus said the other two went out to drink and enjoy their little time with women. They didn’t show up in the morning when it was time to leave. My men run from nothing. Someone did something to them and I think you would know."

Christian and Logn pushed through the crowd with other knights behind them to reach Rafael’s side. The competition was long forgotten now that Martin was here. The man who was always picking at what Rafael did and complaining to the palace. The same man who then turned around and requested the knights join him at the border.
