Chapter 157: Self-control (1)
"Finally," Annalise whispered when the carriage she rode stopped on the road before it entered the market.
After a long day of trying to understand why she was tasking herself with making Rafael tea for him to sleep, she was finally free to do as she wanted which meant she could leave the manor. Her plans were to find Thomas and start back her training with him while they caught up with everything they found out, but now she had something else to deal with.
The two bastards who spoke of taking advantage of her people. Annalise could not allow the two of them to return to the border. She was certain there were more men who thought like the two of them, but right now, dealing with these two would satisfy her.
Annalise exited the carriage to walk the rest of the way to the market. She wore a cloak over her head to hide her appearance as she walked into the market to find where the border guards were staying. All she had to do was mention border guards visiting Rafael and many of the other maids started to talk, eventually revealing where the men stayed.
This was the one time when she wished Thomas was somehow stalking her so they could do this together, but she had no time to waste trying to try finding Thomas. It was important she got rid of those men before morning came. She hoped they would be where the maids said all the guards stayed.
Annalise walked into the market that was still busy though it was late into the night. The taverns were opened to people who wanted to waste their money on drinks. The town came alive at night for businesses that were mostly closed in the day like the red light district. This was its time to make money.
"Pretty lady."
Annalise stepped to the side to get out of the way of a man already drunk of his mind who seemed to be heading home. She hoped he prayed before he started drinking because she doubted he was going to make it back home with how easy it was for him to be distracted.
What was so good about drinking to make someone be so out of their mind that they could not think straight? Annalise wanted a good drink to make her feel the same way.
