The Knight's Mysterious Maid

Chapter 85: Mother knows best (1)

"We should take some of our flowers and plant them in Rafael’s garden. Just because men live there does not mean his manor should be dull without any color. He has not commented on the apple trees I had planted around the yard," said Beatrice.

"The boy is too busy to notice," River said, helping Beatrice to dig out the flowers she wanted to be removed.

"I still think we should tie him and trap him here so he could take time off from worrying about the kingdom. The next time I see the king, I am going to let him have it. Always sending my son around when there are plenty of other men to help this kingdom. I should just yell at all of them," Beatrice grumbled, angrily pulling out the weeds among her plants.

River kept quiet to avoid her anger turning to him. He needed to keep her far away from the king as possible to avoid going to war over her killing Tobias.

He looked at the bottom of her dress stained with wet mud. He had told her to sit back while he did what she wanted with a garden or to let a servant do it, but she wanted to do it herself. The poor weeds did not deserve to get pulled out with so much anger.

"We should invite him to dinner. I would even cook so- Why did you just frown, River?" Beatrice asked, tilting her head to get a better look at his face. "You have said many times that you like my cooking, did you not? Has it not improved over the years?"

"You should take a look at the tomatoes you’ve been growing," River replied, pointing at the almost red tomatoes to help change what they spoke about. He could stomach her food to not upset her, but he would not torture Rafael with it.

"Have you been lying to me about my cooking?" Beatrice asked. He had complimented her so many times that she took she was good at it.

Beatrice had never cooked a day in her life before she married River, but with him always away working, the least she could do was try cooking so that he would have something warm to eat when he returned home. She also cooked for herself and Rafael when River was away and they could not afford servants. She thought it would be nice for her to cook like the old days.
