Chapter 83: Rafael’s maid (2)
Mavis made a mental note to ask some of the maids about Aria and confirm who it was that approached Rafael. She was the head maid for a reason. Any complaints they had should come to her, and then she would go to Rafael. She was already under fire for not handling Connor and the maids well.
"I will make sure the maids say nothing or approach you, but are you certain you want to take Annalise as your maid? She needs to be protected, but she does not have the knowledge or training to be your maid. It would be a better idea for you to place a knight around her-"
"Is this not my home? Do you think I have not considered all options?" Rafael asked. His decision was final when it came to Annalise. It wasn’t much for a maid following him to do, so there was no need for her to be trained. All Annalise needed to do was stay by his side so he could watch over her until the issue with Delilah was over.
He also knew not to listen to Mavis when it came to Annalise since they did not get along well. Mavis’s judgment was clouded by her personal feelings when it came to Annalise.
"I’m sorry," Mavis apologised though she was just looking out for him. Annalise was a simple farm girl who had no idea how this town worked. There was so much she had to learn when she first started to work here. How could someone like that serve Rafael personally?
"There is nothing for her to learn. She only needs to be by my side and do as I say. If she makes a mistake, I will correct her, and you will be around to help her. It is your job to help her. Switch her duties with someone else starting tomorrow morning," Rafael said as he walked past Mavis now that what he had to say was finished.
Yes, young master," Mavis said, lowering her head as he left the library. She gritted her teeth out of anger when he was gone. She used to like Delilah and warmed up to her since she thought the young woman might one day become Rafael’s wife, but it seemed that was out of the question now, and she had caused Rafael to take Annalise as her maid.
Mavis couldn’t piece together what caused Delilah to go after Annalise. She heard a few of the maids speak about Annalise getting special jobs because there might have been something between her and Rafael, but Mavis knew it to be nonsense. She worked here long enough to have seen the young women Rafael entertained. He would want nothing to do with a farm girl.
"Where is that girl?" Mavis asked herself, leaving the library to find Annalise. Annalise was like a wild animal, hard to control, but Mavis would do what was necessary to bring Annalise into the group of maids she treated well.
