Chapter 48: Attention (1)
Annalise was confused when the knights stopped their hard work to collect her eggs. They were just standing around looking in the same direction where she heard someone yell, but she had not paid much attention to it then.
"Where did Rafael run off to?" Giselle asked for anyone to answer. She spent far longer than she would have liked searching for him and now that she had finally found him, he was off again without speaking to her. She needed to make the most of her being the only lady here.
Giselle knew there would soon be other ladies swarming this estate to see Rafael because she had overheard them. That was why she arrived so early and by some luck, she was able to get rid of Delilah. This would be a good day for her if Rafael would just stay in one place.
Giselle intended to be the one to capture his attention and prove the girls who had said she blended in with the background wrong. She returned to town looking different in hopes this bold look would be able to seduce the man everyone wanted. Girls like Delilah who tease her were only now jealous that she was getting so much attention from men.
Annalise remembered this young lady as the one who tried to use her as a shield by the front door. Now she knew why the knights were so distracted. Had they never seen a lady before?
They were the ones standing around half-naked and yet, no one was gawking at them. At least not right now.
They should at least have the decency to not stand and stare.
Annalise went to stand in front of Giselle to block her body from their eyes. Yet again this town confused her. She heard of an unwritten rule for ladies to dress moderately before men so they wouldn’t be seen as presumptuous or be seen the same as the women in what were called red-light districts.
The men here could walk around shirtless, but the ladies had to be aware of their surroundings so she didn’t see why the woman before her was practically flaunting her chest.
