Chapter 11: Ambush
Returning to the camp, still feeling energetic, everyone was getting ready to leave. I went back to my tent to grab the rest of my things—like a bottle of water and a bag filled with a few first-aid potions.
With everything in hand, I was ready.
It didn’t take long for the entire camp to be dismantled, leaving only the remains of a campfire on the ground.
With everyone now prepared to depart, we began walking once more.
As we moved through the dense forest, various noises echoed from the bushes. One of the knights went to check—and three wolves leapt on top of him.
While the wolves tried to tear the man apart, the knights around him quickly stepped in. It didn’t take long before all three were slain.
Watching it all unfold, I froze. I wasn’t used to seeing death right in front of me. I thought I’d have to fight too... which would’ve been a problem. I can use Qi, but still with some difficulty. The old memories in this body are all tangled up, making it hard to focus...
Looking at the knight who’d been attacked, he was groaning in pain—his leg dangling by threads. The grotesque sight made me nauseous.
Trying to compare it with what the protagonist of this world had witnessed, I realized—seeing a pile of flesh like that is worse. More and more, I’m convinced that guy’s not normal. He didn’t feel anything in scenes like this.
While I was lost in thought, a healer came and managed to reattach the knight’s leg.
With help from a companion, he was able to walk again, and so we moved on.
