Chapter 1835 - 1836: Blackwind Wolf
Upon hearing the noise, Lin Chen instantly became fully alert, a reflex formed from long battles.
As the strange sound drew closer, Lin Chen finally saw what was approaching.
"Ghost-faced bees?"
Not far from Lin Chen, a swarm of black and yellow bees hovered in mid-air, their bodies adorned with human-like facial patterns, making them look somewhat terrifying. A rough glance counted over twenty of them.
The majority of these ghost-faced bees had the cultivation level of an Immortal Emperor, which was unheard of in the lower realm. Yet among them, there was another one that was quite different.
The other ghost-faced bees were about the size of a human child, whereas this one was as large as an adult human, as big as a cow. Most importantly, its cultivation had reached the Divine Scholar realm!
"The queen bee!"
Lin Chen's eyes sparkled, and a smile crept across his lips.
Finally, a demon beast of the Divine Scholar realm!
The queen bee showed signs of high intelligence. With a buzz, it commanded the other bees to shoot towards Lin Chen, their stingers gleaming with a black luster, indicating that even Lin Chen wouldn't fare well if stung!
But just as those ghost-faced bees were about to reach Lin Chen, he moved his hand, and the Tianyan Ancient Sword appeared in his grasp. With a swift slash, a sword aura streaked with colorful flames swept through them, cutting down every single one!
With a slight smile, Lin Chen turned to the queen bee, which was clearly more intelligent. Realizing its entire swarm had perished in a single breath, it turned to flee immediately.
But how could Lin Chen let it escape just like that? He took a step forward and chased after it.
The queen bee, noticing Lin Chen's relentless pursuit, turned abruptly and emitted a piercing buzz. Lin Chen suddenly felt dizzy, his movements halted momentarily, giving the queen bee a chance to speed up its escape.
After shaking off the discomfort, Lin Chen frowned:
"It seems that divine realm beasts indeed have tricks up their sleeves. If not for the ghost-faced bees' lack of attack power, I might have gotten hurt. Clearly, one should never lower their guard when venturing outside!"
With his guard up, Lin Chen chased the queen bee once again like lightning. As it was about to unleash its bizarre attack again, Lin Chen harnessed his energy, casting a dark golden sword light:
"Sword Break!"
"Puff!"
In an instant, the queen bee was blasted to ashes!
Demon beasts are simply much stronger physically than humans. However, the sharpness of the Tianyan Ancient Sword was something that Lin Chen had no need to worry about, allowing him to easily dispatch the queen bee using the Tianyan Nine Forms.
Among the pile of flesh, Lin Chen found an object resembling a small stone.
"A demon core! Ha, who would have thought this queen bee actually cultivated a demon core!"
Lin Chen smiled slightly, storing it in his Storage Ring.
For him right now, cultivation resources are quite scarce, so even a demon core is valuable—a small morsel is still meat.
After putting away the demon core, Lin Chen looked around, spotting the edge of Cliff Valley in the distance.
"The mission this time is to slay ten Blackwind Wolves. I should complete this task first to avoid any further delays. The Blackwind Wolf's strength ranges between the first and second level of the Divine Scholar realm, and given their numbers, they provide a good test for my abilities."
Thinking about the specific tasks, Lin Chen hurried along, quickly making his way to Cliff Valley.
Amidst the surrounding mountains, a towering cliff jutted towards the sky, with a basin-like valley below it, abundant with various forms of life.
"To slay Blackwind Wolves, I need only venture to the valley's outskirts. The inner parts are dangerous, reportedly home to beings at the peak of the Divine Scholar realm!"
Such opponents are currently beyond Lin Chen's ability to contend with, and going in would be akin to courting death.
On the valley's outskirts, by a small stream, a deer-like beast drank from the water, its ears twitching occasionally to scan the surroundings, ready to dash away at a moment's notice.
Not far from the water, within the forest, a pair of ghostly green eyes watched intently, ever poised to launch a lethal strike.
After a while, the deer-like beast, having quenched its thirst, turned to leave. At that moment, a black figure burst out from the forest, leaping onto the deer-like beast.
It struggled and wailed, but all in vain, as the black figure tore into its throat, its lifeblood swiftly ebbing away.
The black beast swiftly devoured its prey and paid no mind to the pair of eyes fixed on it from a large tree nearby.
"Black fur, green eyes, sharp claws, fast movements, fond of preying on creatures like horned deer. It must be a Blackwind Wolf!"
It turns out that the person in the tree was Lin Chen.
After entering Cliff Valley, Lin Chen quickly located the water source, knowing from the mission instructions that Blackwind Wolves often hunted near water. Sure enough, he witnessed this scene before long!
"But the mission stated that Blackwind Wolves are pack animals, so there might be more nearby. I'd better hold off and wait a bit longer!"
So, Lin Chen waited from afternoon until evening, but no other Blackwind Wolves appeared, and the one below showed signs of leaving.
Lin Chen frowned:
"Could it be a lone Blackwind Wolf? Regardless, let's take it down first to test the waters!"
With his mind made up, Lin Chen silently descended from the tree, quickly advancing towards the Blackwind Wolf. Once close enough, he stepped forward, closing the distance quickly with a palm strike aimed at the wolf!
"Wretched creature, meet your end!"
The Blackwind Wolf, hearing the movement, did not turn but rolled deftly away, evading Lin Chen's attack.
"Hmm? Such quick reflexes!"
Having dodged Lin Chen's strike, the Blackwind Wolf bared its teeth at him, then lunged forward, its sharp claws and teeth gleamed coldly in the air.
