Chapter 1693 - 1694: Soaring Across the Great River
As the words fell, Lin Chen's body leapt into the Spiritual Spring.
Just after entering the spring, the Phoenix Armor appeared on Lin Chen's body.
Despite this, Lin Chen still felt a chilling aura surrounding him.
Within Lin Chen's body, there were two types of Spiritual Fire, and he could sense that this new fire's power was not inferior to the other two.
The closer he got to the bottom of the spring, the more pressure this fire exerted on him.
Even the Phoenix Armor showed cracks.
Finally, Lin Chen reached the bottom and saw the Spiritual Fire emitting black flames.
"This is the Black Flame True Fire, ranked sixth on the mystical fire list," Xiao Shuai exclaimed joyfully.
"It seems we're quite lucky this time," Lin Chen said with a smile.
Xiao Shuai nodded: "But it's not easy to devour this fire."
Lin Chen smiled faintly: "Don't worry, I'm prepared."
With a thought, a suction force emanated from Lin Chen's palm.
In an instant, the mystical fire was drawn into Lin Chen's hand.
Immediately, the Phoenix Armor on his hand began to melt.
"Absorb it!"
The next moment, the Black Flame True Fire was already absorbed into the Tianyan space by Lin Chen.
This fire was powerful, making short-term absorption impossible, so Lin Chen housed it in the Tianyan space for gradual absorption later.
After absorbing the Black Flame True Fire, Lin Chen let out a long breath before emerging from the spring.
Seeing Lin Chen, Tian Jiao finally breathed a sigh of relief.
When he realized the chilling sensation from the spring had disappeared, his expression changed slightly.
"Master, did you absorb the mystical fire?" Tian Jiao asked, shocked.
Lin Chen shook his head: "Not yet, I've just stored it somewhere for now."
"I see," Tian Jiao nodded.
"Tian Jiao, this Black Flame Fire is powerful, but with your constitution, you definitely can't control it. Let me give you a Spiritual Fire more suited to you."
As Lin Chen finished speaking, a ball of azure fire appeared in his palm.
This azure fire, accidentally acquired by Lin Chen, was gentler in power, making it perfect for Tian Jiao to control compared to the Black Flame True Fire.
"Is this the legendary Azure Flame True Fire? It's a dream come true for us Artifact Refiners," Tian Jiao exclaimed excitedly.
Lin Chen nodded: "Consider it as compensation for you."
Tian Jiao shook his head: "Master, even though I discovered the Black Flame True Fire, I couldn't wield it; it was just wishful thinking. But this Azure Flame True Fire truly suits me. Thank you, Master."
Lin Chen smiled: "Alright, go into seclusion for training now. Come find me once you exit seclusion."
Tian Jiao nodded before parting ways with Lin Chen.
Just after Lin Chen left Chessboard Mountain, an old Daoist blocked his path.
This old Daoist was one of the three people Lin Chen had scolded at the Tian Jiao residence.
Lin Chen looked at the old Daoist and asked calmly: "Did you need something?"
The old Daoist bowed to Lin Chen before speaking earnestly: "Mr. Lin, your scolding at the Tian Jiao residence last time greatly benefited me. My heart was restless, thinking my strength gave me everything, hindering my progress for a hundred years."
"But yesterday, you taught me there's always someone stronger, and the sky is the limit. You made me realize the importance of respect, and I defeated my inner demons last night. You're my benefactor," the old Daoist said sincerely.
Lin Chen nodded: "That was your own effort, no need to thank me."
The old Daoist continued: "Mr. Lin, I sought you out because I inadvertently received unfavorable news for you."
"What news?" Lin Chen furrowed his brows.
The old Daoist continued: "In the front at Sifang City, the Black and White King of Law intends to kill you."
"The Black and White King of Law?" Lin Chen frowned upon hearing the name.
The old Daoist seriously replied: "The Black and White King of Law are assassins from the God Realm, at the peak of their powers. They've been rumored to have jointly killed several Immortal Emperor masters."
"That formidable," Lin Chen frowned.
The saying goes, it's easy to dodge a spear but hard to avoid a hidden arrow; the danger of assassins lies in their ability to remain concealed.
Once given the opportunity, they deliver a lethal strike.
"Thank you, Daoist brother." Lin Chen quickly clasped his hands in gratitude.
If not for the old Daoist, he might have unwittingly walked into danger in Sifang City.
However, even knowing the risk ahead, Sifang City was a necessary step toward the Immortal City for Lin Chen, and he resolved to deal with the Black and White King of Law.
He refused to let these venomous entities linger near him.
Chessboard Mountain wasn't too far from Sifang City, so Lin Chen soon saw its towering presence.
Sifang City was one of the major cities in the Immortal Realm, said to be the center of commerce.
Lin Chen arrived there at nightfall, only to find the city gates closed.
"Alas, it looks like we'll have to spend a cold night outside the city," a Martial Artist beside Lin Chen sighed.
"Why freeze? Isn't crossing that river the same as reaching Sifang City?" Lin Chen asked, puzzled.
"You make it sound easy. Do you know that river is over ten thousand meters wide, with a mysterious suction force? Once caught, river beasts devour you. Many have tried flying across, ignorant of its dangers, only to perish," the Martial Artist said.
"Is that so?" Lin Chen peered at the river.
He attempted to send a spiritual thought into the river, but it was quickly obliterated by a mysterious force.
"This is the Primeval Force." Lin Chen's heart stirred at the realization.
The Martial Artist beside him laughed: "Young man, don't bother. It's cold at night; better rent a tent and find a sheltered spot."
"Oh!" Lin Chen ignored the Martial Artist, his gaze fixed on the distant river surface.
"The Primeval Force... interesting!" Lin Chen's lips curled slightly.
"Swoosh!" Behind him, a pair of Phoenix Wings unfurled as he flew toward the river.
Seeing someone flying toward the river, excitement erupted along the shore.
"Look, someone's trying to cross the Black Water River," someone shouted.
Everyone lined the shore, wearing amused expressions.
"Another fool seeking death. The last guy made it five hundred meters, at best," one person remarked.
"I bet this kid won't make it past fifty meters," another declared confidently.
Everyone on the bank watched Lin Chen with pity, anticipating his fall into the river.
Yet as fifty meters passed, Lin Chen remained unaffected, as did he at one hundred meters.
Lin Chen soared above, feeling the river's suction trying to pull him down.
Feeling the pull beneath him, Lin Chen's lips curved upward; this ancient force was exactly what he needed.
