Chapter 80 - 75 – Dog Arc (13)
The moment shattered like glass.
"RAAAAAHHHHH!!"
Matthew lunged, claws trailing ribbons of black flame. Tiles burst apart as his corrupted body surged forward, eyes glowing like two abyssal lanterns.
"Finally!" Kaen roared back, his fists igniting with crimson Shinrei. He met Matthew head-on, their first collision thunderous, shockwaves cracked the walls, shattered windows, sent dust spiraling upward.
Claw against fist.
Void against flame.
The gym floor cratered beneath them.
Khael slid back, eyes narrowing. Now… it's up to me.
His dragon heritage stirred, the whisper of Azael, the ancient drake whose memories burned within his soul. Khael dropped to one knee, pressing his palm against the shattered floor. Veins of gold light spread outward like a sigil, pulsing.
(Remember, hatchling… when the Void takes hold, bind it at the roots. Anchor their Shinrei with dragonfire. Do not hesitate, lest the abyss swallows them whole.)
Khael's lips moved in a whisper, chanting words not of men but of dragons. His body trembled as the Severing Seal of Azael began to form.
Across the battlefield, Kaen was barely holding his ground. Matthew's claws ripped the air apart, each strike fueled by endless fury. Kaen's knuckles split, blood painting the floor, but he grinned through it, every blow pushing Matthew back an inch.
"C'mon, Matt!" Kaen shouted between impacts. "If you're still in there—THEN FIGHT ME!!"
"USSSSSELESSSSS!!!" Matthew's voice boomed, distorted, every word dripping Void malice. His swing caught Kaen across the ribs, sending him skidding across the cracked floor.
Kaen spat blood, laughed, and charged right back.
"Is that all?! You hit softer than a rookie Echo Beast!"
Meanwhile, Khael's circle widened, golden light weaving into chains of energy that shimmered faintly against the black storm. His dragon eyes flickered, pupils narrowing to slits.
Almost there… just a little longer…
The clown man leaned lazily against a wall, hands clapping mockingly as he watched.
"Beautiful, BEAUTIFUL! The beast fights his friend"
The clown man tilted his painted head, eyes narrowing at the golden weave spreading under Khael's hand.
"Hmmm? Now what's this circus trick?" he muttered, tone still mocking but his smile twitching with curiosity.
The glowing dragon glyphs coiled outward, ancient and alien too intricate for any modern Shinrei art. The air thrummed with heavy resonance, like the heartbeat of a colossal beast slumbering deep below.
Clown man squinted, frowning.
(That's no sigil I've ever cared to study… tch. Don't tell me it's some relic nonsense from the fossil days.)
He smirked again, brushing it off with a laugh.
"Whatever it is—it won't save your little friend when he's tearing you to pieces, eh?!"
But deep down, a splinter of unease prickled in his gut.
Meanwhile, Kaen roared as Matthew's claw came crashing down. He caught it with both arms, muscles straining, bones screaming as cracks split his shinrei shield.
"Dammit… Matt!!"
Matthew's face was half-monstrous, jaw split too wide, eyes glowing void-black but for a fraction of a heartbeat, Kaen swore he saw his friend's trembling expression buried inside.
"UrghhhhHHHHH!!" Matthew howled, forcing Kaen down to his knees.
Kaen's teeth ground together. His arms bled, his ribs cracked, but he laughed through the agony.
"If you're still in there… then I'll beat you awake!!"
Fist met claw again, the gym shuddering like it might collapse.
Khael pressed harder, sweat dripping down his jaw as the Severing Seal of Azael took shape. The dragon glyphs shifted into chains of molten gold, spiraling up like a cage ready to descend.
Khael's gaze hardened, dragon eyes blazing.
(I'll save him… even if it burns me from the inside out.)
The clown man chuckled, licking his teeth, yet his painted eyes twitched again as the glyph circle flared brighter.
(Wait… no. That pressure… that's not just some relic. Could it be… some ancient arts? What a pain.)
Still, he grinned wider, shrugging it off.
"Bah—who cares? As long as it's entertaining, keep dancing for me, kiddies! HYAHAHAHA!!"
Kaen's voice ripped through the chaos.
"MATT!!"
His fist, wrapped in flickering Shinrei flame, smashed against Matthew's monstrous arm. Bone and void-flesh cracked, the impact booming across the ruined gym.
Matthew staggered, his corrupted form snarling, black veins writhing across his face. For an instant, the Void-born rage faltered, and his human voice cracked through the distortion.
"s-stop… me…"
Kaen's eyes widened. He gritted his teeth, forcing every ounce of strength into his next punch.
"I won't stop, dumbass!! Not until I drag you back myself!"
He slammed his fist into Matthew's gut, sending the Void-corrupted boy skidding back into a shattered wall.
Meanwhile, the Severing Seal of Azael pulsed brighter around Khael. Golden chains thickened, runes blazing as though alive, trying to clamp around Matthew's void aura.
Khael's veins burned, dragon energy roaring inside his body like fire about to split him apart. His breath grew ragged.
(Almost… almost there…!)
The glyphs descended, hissing against the swirling blackness around Matthew. Sparks burst as golden restraint clashed with void corruption, neither side yielding.
Matthew roared, clawing at his own chest, torn between the chains of gold and the gnawing darkness.
"GAHHHHHHHHH!!!"
The clown man tilted his head back, laughing manically.
"YES! YES! More!! Tear yourself apart, brat! Let's see if the dragon's fire or the Void's hunger wins!"
Kaen turned, eyes flashing to Khael.
"Khael…!!"
Khael growled through clenched teeth, his dragon pupils slit thin.
"Hold him down, Kaen!! The seal needs… more time!!"
Kaen spat blood, cracked his knuckles, and sprinted straight at Matthew again.
"Fine—then I'll give you all the damn time you need!!"
The gym floor shook as Ceyla staggered upright, her legs trembling, her storm affinity sparking wildly around her fingertips. Lightning cracked in the air, mingling with the golden chains from Khael's seal.
Her chest heaved, sweat plastering her wolf-cut hair to her face. She raised her hand, a storm-wreathed sigil forming above her palm.
"You're… not the only one… who can move, bastard."
Her storm struck down, jagged arcs wrapping Matthew's body. The Void shrieked in his veins, spasming under the stun.
Kaen whipped his head back, a wild grin cutting across his face.
"Heh—barely standing, and you're still barking orders."
Ceyla's cheeks flushed, anger snapping through her exhaustion.
"Shut up, Kaen!"
The two's defiance cracked the suffocating silence for just a heartbeat—proof they weren't done yet.
Across the rubble, Andromeda Ban dragged himself to his feet, blood dripping from his split lip. His Echo beast, Junjun, limped beside him, one crimson eye blazing with stubborn loyalty.
Andromeda clenched his white-gloved fist, the Stormfang artifact glowing faintly with wind currents.
"Fuck… this is harder than I thought…"
The clown man tilted his head, his painted grin twitching wider as he watched them rise one by one.
"Ooooh, look at this pathetic little miracle squad! Broken bones, empty lungs, shaking legs—and you still dare to resist?" He spread his arms, laughing manically.
"HAHAHAHAHA! Delicious!! Dance for me more! DANCE UNTIL YOU BREAK!!"
