Chapter 140 - 140: Crucial Thing
The shadow slithered down the hallway floors like a snake.
It quietly reached Jupiter's office and went under the door unnoticed.
In that moment, it came across an unfamiliar man, standing before the desk and going through his papers.
"…"
The shadow quietly turned into a person, and he was holding a curved dagger in his hand.
He was a sleazy-looking man with cold eyes, green swampy hair, and unhealthy-colored skin.
"You came. That is good."
With a chuckle, Aren turned around with a smile on his face, and he was currently back in his Beau disguise.
"You're that new personal bodyguard?"
Shadow said in surprise.
"You've seen me? I hadn't even noticed you. You're good at hiding, but you're now very much out of luck."
Aren said, and he clapped his hands.
In that moment, mist poured out of the windows and enveloped both of them in a suffocating embrace.
"What the hell is this?"
Shadow asked in shock.
Aren kept smiling without answering, and at that moment, both of them disappeared from the office without leaving a single trace.
…
Realm Between, Shattered Peninsula, the Graveyard of the Damned.
"Urgh!"
With a grunt, Shadow stumbled out of the stone gateway and accidentally stumbled into the corpse of the servant.
"Ah!"
He looked stunned and saw Aren step out of the gateway, black revolver in hand, and his lips curled into a smile.
"You… were the servant? I didn't know that Outlaws have shapeshifting abilities."
Shadow said, and tightened his grip on the dagger.
"I am a special kind, you see, but for my purposes, it's better for you to die right here and now!"
With a finger on the trigger, Aren fired several shots. They boomed through the graveyard, but Shadow had already sunk back into his shadow.
The shadow slithered down the graveyard floor, and Aren kept firing shots at him, but the shadow kept dodging them.
In that moment, the shadow went up a wall of a ruined mausoleum and appeared at the top. The shadow turned into a person.
'…It's always risky to fight against someone whose abilities are a mystery to me, but I've already checked his information, and I think I can handle him…'
[Name: Honor Wells]
[Pathway: Stealth]
[Level: 3]
[Class: Shadow Itself]
'Based on what I've seen and the class name, I don't think he has great offensive abilities, but he is very difficult to kill.
'That's why I lured him to the Realm Between, as no one can disturb us here. It would be just too difficult to kill him without anyone finding out back in Whitesky!'
Aren thought to himself, created a few more bullets, and slid them inside the revolver's chamber.
With a click, the chamber locked back in place.
"I don't know where you've sent me, but don't think you can kill me. You're just digging your own grave here."
Honor said.
"Tell me what you and Jupiter talked about. You wanted to leave for a reason, and if you tell me why, I will send you back where we came from."
Aren said.
Honor looked at him silently, then grimaced, and said.
"You're lying. That's what you Outlaws do, isn't it? You lie, lie, lie, kill, kill, kill, and deceive, deceive, deceive!"
Aren raised his revolver and pulled the trigger.
The bullet whizzed towards Honor, but he sank back to his shadow and slithered back down on the ground.
However, in that moment, he disappeared from Aren's view, as there were many shadows around him to hide in, and Aren couldn't keep track of them all.
At that moment, Aren's own shadow started moving strangely, and from there, Honor jumped out with dagger in hand.
Street Smarts' ability was screaming at him of danger.
Aren jumped forward, turned around, and fired a few shots.
With the bullets nearing Honor, he sank back into the shadows, slithered past Aren, and again formed into a person.
The dagger came at him like a flash of silver. Aren rolled out of the way, pointed the revolver at him, and fired a shot.
Honor sank into shadow. The bullet flew over him. He turned back to a person and thrust his dagger at him with a lunging strike.
"Ah!"
Aren slid past the lunging strike, grabbed his dagger-wielding wrist with his left hand, and pushed his revolver towards Honor's face.
The finger was already on the trigger, but then Honor pushed the revolver's barrel to the side, and in the same moment, Aren pulled the trigger.
The bullet grazed past Honor's cheek and embedded into a tombstone behind.
"Tch!"
Honor sank back into the shadows.
The dagger fell towards the ground. In that moment, a hand reached out of the shadow, grabbed the falling dagger, and sliced across Aren's ankle.
"Argh!"
Aren jumped away from the shadow.
The cut on his ankle was shallow and not that dangerous, but it made standing on that foot quite annoying.
'I suck at fighting. Honor is not good either, and he is just relying on his ability to survive this far. If I were better, I should've already ended his life.'
Aren thought with annoyance.
In the distance, he saw the shadow slithering about, and behind him, the thick fog surrounded the graveyard.
Aren started firing bullets at him, and the shadow moved closer. Zig-zagging through the graveyard. The shadow was getting closer with each passing second.
At that moment, when Aren pulled the trigger, nothing happened. The chamber was empty, and this was the moment that Honor was waiting for.
Honor jumped out of the shadow, dagger in hand, and plunged it towards Aren in an attempt to end his life.
In that moment, Aren drew his guard's sword and pierced it through Honor's chest. The dagger stopped close to his chest.
The longsword had much greater range than the dagger.
"Ahh…"
Honor gasped in shock, looking at the sword, and coughed up blood.
He forgot one crucial thing. That Aren was in possession of a sword. He thought that he only had to worry about the revolver.
It was because he was Outlaw and had been using the revolver the whole fight, so he never thought that he would pull out the sword.
'…Having to rely on tricks like this…'
Aren pulled out the sword from Honor's chest and pushed him down with a kick. He kept trying to fight for as long as he could, but eventually, he stopped moving altogether.
