Chapter 240: Fall of Sidney
Liam conveyed Rory’s change of heart to the prosecutors. Rory was sitting by his side, listening in on the call.
The prosecutors were trying to stop the defense lawyers from filing a motion against the testimony of Sidney. The defense argued that Sidney is not mentally fit to be on the witness stand. They even had medical reports of Sidney that exposed the amount of abuse she had endured over the years and how it had altered her brain chemistry.
Guess who confessed to abusing Sidney.
Yeah, Lennon!
He grew conscience out of nowhere and he decided to set it straight and "ask for forgiveness".
Still, Sidney was a liability. She in her current mental state was like a cat on the fence. She can jump either this side or that side. Her testimony could either affect Lennon’s sentencing or help Lennon. Lennon apparently didn’t want to take that bargain. And he also wanted to push Rory to the stand.
Rory rolled her eyes.
Liam told the prosecutors to fight the motion till the end and keep Rory’s change of heart a secret.
"He wants you on the stand so badly," Liam said rubbing his forehead.
Rory leaned on his shoulder. She thought the same too. It scared her for many reasons. She was greatly affected by him and to be in front of him, recalling that incident once more... It’s going to be very hard.
The following days were a bloodbath metaphorically. The prosecutors and the defense were at war. The Prosecutors still wanted Sidney’s testimony as they wanted the jurors to see how screwed up Lennon made her be. Sidney was once a smart, beautiful, and intelligent lady. Just by marrying Lennon, her life as she knew it ended and she became a bitter opportunist.
Rory was against that idea and so was Liam. Sidney does not have to be paraded around for any purpose. It was obvious she cannot make any sound decisions for herself.
