Chapter 63: Misapprehension
Rory couldn’t get the top or bottom of the situation there. The only thing she remembered was the challenge she made to Liam. She knows that he takes challenges personally.
How could I lose my baby like this?
She blamed herself and ran out of her room. The house was empty because everyone was asleep. Even Mrs. Delport won’t wake up this early and as Rory expected, she was still sleeping.
Where could he have taken her? That dark figure... Was he waiting the whole night to steal Ellie from me?
Ugh! Why did I make an open challenge? I could have done it all silently! Why am I stupid?
Like a madwoman, she ran around to check every room. Hearing the noise, the cleaning staff stopped her.
"Baby... my baby..." Rory said amidst her heavy breath.
"Your husband took her out just now..." the staff pointed outside and Rory’s heart skipped a beat.
Forgetting that she is not wearing shoes, she stepped out of the house. There was no car in the driveway and there was no sign of a car there.
The fence!
Rory ran to the gap in the fence which connects the two houses. Both of them use that gap as a shortcut to go to the other’s house. As she was running, the little pebbles scraped her feet and they hurt. But she was so focused on getting Ellie before Liam takes her away from her that she didn’t care about the pain and ran.
As she was about to get to the fence, she heard a soft murmur from the garden and slowed down. The guy sounded like Liam and she listened closely. The moment she heard the unadulterated laugh of her baby girl, Rory turned and ran toward the garden.
