Chapter 228: Soaring High
Days passed. Tony took the pledge and became the congressman. He was busy and at times he had to visit Washington D.C.
Marcella stayed in Olive Groove with the kids. She loved her life there. She visited the towns she used to visit whenever she could and got their feedback.
People joked that she was the first congressman who cared for them. Everyone treated her as the congressman and not as the spouse of the congressman. Even the party heads and people
Tony needed to win a lot more times before he could run for president. He needed to be well-known in the whole country if he wanted to win the presidential election. Tony was working on laying the foundation and she decided to help him in the little ways she could.
Marcella asked him to buy a place in Washington D.C. Saying in hotels each time he went there wouldn’t be optimal. Tony agreed to rent but Marcella called some people and, in the end, they owned a house in the capital. It was not as big as their house but it had enough space in the front and back and was in a quiet neighborhood.
Marcella thought Tony would sign on it without her, but he took them to the capital for the signing. He wanted to buy that house in her name but Marcella insisted that he bought it in his name. He didn’t own any property to his name to her knowledge and she didn’t like that. Also, he paid for it so it should be in his name.
She stayed there for a few days and helped him decorate the house. She decorated their bedroom like their home bedroom to make him feel less homesick and stocked the fridge to make sure he cooked. Joey loved the small playground at the back.
Although Marcella should have gotten used to the security arrangements around the house, she was not used to those Secret Service men in black.
"Do they even give secret service protection to any congressman?" Marcella asked. She didn’t think that was the case. Also, those men looked menacing with their clean-shaven faces and sharp glare on those faces with no smiles. Even when she tried to talk to them, they said nothing back and just stared at her. Her cookies weren’t that bad.
"Are you scared of them?" Tony asked, finding it funny.
