"Paul didn’t want to kill Andy-my brother. Only your sister was the target..." Tony paused.
Marcella leaned closer as she already knew that. There must be more.
Tony pressed his lips and averted his eyes. His hands fisted and he unconsciously gritted his teeth. Since his jaws hurt, he took in a sharp inhale.
Marcella patted his hand as he was stressed.
"He wanted you," Tony said.
Marcella waited. It appeared that Tony still had more to say. She knew Paul wanted to kill her too. That was the reason she was targeted that night. Tony protected her that night.
"Paul wanted you..." Tony said. His eyes were furrowed and he stared at the floor. He was suppressing his anger and at the same time, she saw relief on his face.
"...to blackmail you into marrying Andrew..." Tony closed his eyes fearing her reaction.
Marcella was taken aback. "Me?" she asked. "Andrew? Andrew Romano—my brother-in-law?" she asked.
What she understood from what Tony said was that Paul didn’t want her killed for the CODEX or other reasons, but he wanted there to break her into marrying her sister’s husband.
