Chapter 79: A Romantic Gesture
Tony made arrangements to have the "Everett" guy investigated. He didn’t think that it would be hard to find anything against him. If he tried something with Marcella, he would have done worse to others.
But about Cindy...
He didn’t know what Marcella was thinking. She could be believing that he was in love with Cindy and maybe that’s why she doesn’t talk about her to him.
He looked at the thick file in his hand. The bill needed to be passed but some forces stop Congressman Feinstein from getting a win. With the recent meeting, he caught Paul Romano in, Tony could conclude that Paul had a hand in it.
Paul had clout; he would not lie. Paul must be lobbying hard with his friends in the higher places if they refuse to accept the bill that would benefit the elites.
Why is Paul going this hard on me?
Tony realized that he had walked a lot in his deep thoughts. He was almost at the laundromat which was known to launder money for the Greek mafia. He decided to leave that place. He has bad blood with them. His presence could get misconstrued as him challenging them.
He didn’t want to start a war until the meeting with Mclaughlin.
As he turned, he noticed a familiar car at the corner and entered the convenience store nearby. Standing by the window, he watched the car as it stopped a block away from the laundromat.
He saw one of Paul’s workers making a careful walk into the laundromat. He knew that guy because that guy was one of the trusted subordinates of Paul next to his personal assistant. He forgot his name at the moment but it won’t be hard to find him.
His presence there caused a stir of doubt in Tony’s heart. Paul could try and get the help of the Greek mob for his political ambitions since his talks with the Irish mafia fell through even before he started.
Tony felt tied as he couldn’t do anything more to investigate right now. It’s not their turf and he didn’t want to expose himself. It is odd that none of the guys he asked to look after Paul’s associates mentioned this happening. Maybe this is his first visit here or he was extremely careful.
