Chapter 132: Should She Leave Him?
Theodora wanted Flavia gone. But the Emperor was not listening to Theodora’s requests. Maximus had a very good relationship with his father although he might not remember it all too well because he was so little then.
Alexandra was happy to hear that Maximus received so much love from his father. He tried to protect Maximus from his mother. But she remembered Maximus saying that he was sent to live in that stone mansion in the mountains when he was very young because his mother didn’t want him in the Royal city.
So she asked about it. Flavia had a complicated expression when she talked about it.
The Emperor loved Maximus so much, but he fell ill. The Chief Priest of the Temple of the Dragon King foretold that the throne is vying for the heir to sit on it since the heir is the original owner of the throne.
It was then the assertion that Maximus being the reincarnation of the Great King started to circulate. Many interpretations of the Chief Priest started to circulate. Because of Maximus’ strong affinity to his throne, the throne tried to remove the obstacle that was keeping Maximus from the throne. And that was why the Emperor got sick.
The council of the ministers convened to reach a decision. The Chief Priest’s prophesy was discussed. It was decided that keeping Maximus far away from the Royal City of Lathlin would help with the health of the Emperor.
The Emperor was very against the idea of sending away his only son. He was not willing to let his son go, even if everyone else believed that it would help with his health. But even the Emperor had to agree on sending away Maximus when he learned of the plot Theodora conspired against Flavia to kill her.
Alexandra was angry that no one told these details to Maximus. He was a boy, but he would have understood the reason they are doing this. But no one told him and he didn’t say it, but he must have been under the impression that even his father didn’t care for him and sent him far away to live in seclusion.
Alexandra wanted to hug him as she understood him more.
"Flavia, the stone mansion... I remember seeing some places covered with cloth..." Alexandra asked.
When they went there, he was not happy with that place. She wanted to know if there is a reason for that.
Flavia bowed her head as she remembered those days. "Maximus was living there for almost a decade. He would have nightmares and he would cry saying that a bad man with black hair and amber eyes hurt him... And as he grew up, he hated seeing his reflection in the mirror. He would get angry and would break all the mirrors and so... there are no mirrors there. And all the reflective surfaces were covered with cloth ."
